In 2012 Dr. Dimmig traveled with fellow Himalayan Cataract Project surgeon Dr. Huck Holz to the city of Arba Minch in south-central Ethiopia. Arba Minch sits on a hill above the Great Rift valley where humans are thought to have first evolved. Arba Minch translates to '40 springs' as there are multiple natural springs in the surrounding area providing potable water. Dr. Holz and Dimmig worked with the local ophthalmologist Dr. Yubenesh for a week teaching corneal surgery and performing a cataract outreach.
