Dr. Dimmig has worked with the Himalayan Cataract Project in Ethiopia since 2012. The Himalayan Cataract Project funds education of ophthalmic surgeons in Asia and Africa via skills transfer outreach programs. Over the last 10 years they have focused on developing the eye care infrastructure in Ethiopia. Dr. Dimmig has now been on 3 separate surgical outreach trips to Ethiopia, the most recent in March of 2017 to Harar, Ethiopia.
In Harar he along with 4 other ophthalmic surgeons (2 US, 2 Ethiopian) performed 1100 sight restoring cataract surgeries in 5 days.
